Kingston Interval House Strengthens Emergency Preparedness with New AEDs and First Aid Training

We are pleased to recognize Kingston Interval House for its continued commitment to the health and safety of the people who rely on its services.

The Kingston Interval House team recently completed its First Aid and CPR recertification with Push For Life, following the full certification its staff completed with us three years ago. The organization has also purchased two new automated external defibrillators (AEDs) for its sites.

Together, these investments help ensure that lifesaving equipment is available—and that trained staff are prepared to respond—if an emergency occurs.

Supporting Kingston for more than 50 years

Kingston Interval House has served the Kingston community since 1975, providing essential services to women, children and youth affected by intimate partner violence, family violence and domestic abuse.

Its programs include a 24-hour emergency shelter, community-based counselling and supportive second-stage housing through Robin’s Hope. The organization’s work provides refuge, practical assistance and ongoing support to people during some of the most challenging moments of their lives.

Equipment and training work together

An AED can make a critical difference during sudden cardiac arrest, but being prepared involves more than placing a device on the wall.

First aid and CPR training help staff recognize an emergency, call for help, begin CPR and use an AED while emergency services are on their way. Regular recertification gives participants the opportunity to refresh these skills, practise responding and stay current with their training.

Sudden cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, at any age and without warning. Every minute matters. Having AEDs onsite—and people who have practised using them—can help reduce hesitation when immediate action is needed.

Modern AEDs are designed to guide responders through each step using clear voice instructions. The device analyzes the person’s heart rhythm and will only advise or deliver a shock when one is appropriate.

A continuing commitment to community safety

We first had the opportunity to certify members of the Kingston Interval House team three years ago. Welcoming them back for their First Aid and CPR recertification—and now helping them equip their sites with two AEDs—has allowed us to see their ongoing commitment to preparedness firsthand.

Organizations like Kingston Interval House care for people during vulnerable and challenging circumstances. Investing in current first aid training and accessible emergency equipment is another meaningful way to support the safety of residents, visitors and staff.
